Nortel & Avaya

There will be some challenges here but the opportunity that this creates for the whole industry is very exciting. By completing the acquisition, which is scheduled for the end of this year, Avaya and Nortel have created the world's No.1 in IP Telephony and contact Centre propositions and brings a real force to the market to offer today's Enterprise choice.

Now we have reached this stage, other questions have arisen, however Avaya have committed to continuing the ongoing business of Nortel and released the following statements:

1. Avaya expects to provide continuity for Nortel Enterprise Solutions and Avaya customers.
2. Avaya will continue to ship existing products for 12-18 months post close, with commitment through the migration path.
3. Ongoing customer support for all customers acquired in the transaction will be provided for multi-year period post-close.
4. Avaya will utilize the vertical and professional services expertise of both companies to drive realizable value and navigate complex architectural migrations.
5. Avaya will honour the standard 3-5 year product life cycle support policy for all customers.
6. For data products, the Nortel roadmap and investment plan will be adopted.

In my own view this echoes the sentiment that we have heard and seen over the last few weeks and we look forward to what the future holds for us all.

I did read something yesterday that I found very amusing and it revolved around Winston Churchill. Whilst out one evening and over indulging himself in alcohol he was approached by a disgusted lady who started to speak to Mr Churchill and she stated to him "You are Drunk!". Mr Churchill turned calmly to the said woman and stated "And you Madam are ugly, but come the weekend I will be sober!".
